At the beginning of October every year, two things happen: My boyfriend’s birthday, and the MLB post-season. It used to seem like, no matter what I did, how well his birthday went depended on how well the Sox were doing. A couple years ago, I threw up my hands in defeat…and gave him some Red Sox fan gear for his birthday. He loved it, of course, and still does, every year – even if the surprise factor has sort of worn off. This year, I was in a pickle: The Sox had made it to the ALDS and were duking it out with the Rays. I’d be jumping the gun (or I might be jinxing them!) if I bought him a dynasty banner or memorabilia from last year’s World Series.
