Six years ago, I was an unbeliever.  That’s right; I didn’t believe that a post cap was anything more than a decorative topper that sat on top of the fence and deck post for show and show alone.  I had read that the post cap would protect the posts from water and insect damage but I dismissed this as utter nonsense.  After all, I’ve seen plenty of fences that were laid bare in the elements and they seemed to hold up just fine.

Then last year the posts started to split and splinter; one by one.  Over the next few months I had the painstaking job of replacing every post on my fence, but this time I have placed the post caps on the top as I should have the first time around.  After seeing the damage that was done by leaving the top exposed I now understand the value of the caps.  I have been converted and now am a believer in the power of the post cap.  The best selection I found was on BEVO Works and I highly recommend them.
